Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors use surface plasma waves (SPWs) to probe biomolecular interactions occurring at the surface of a sensor. This chapter introduces SPWs, presents methods for their excitation and interrogation, and discusses the concept of SPR optical biosensors.
