Danxia landform is formed from red-coloured sandstones and conglomerates of largely Cretaceous age. The landforms look very much like karst topography that forms in areas underlain by limestones, but since the rocks that form danxia are sandstones and conglomerates, they have been called "pseudo-karst" landforms. The Danxia landform features reddish sandstone caused by wind and water erosion. The combination of differences in density and erosion create towering peaks, caves, and stone walls. Such landforms can be found in southeast, southwest and northwest China. The term ‘Danxia landform’ was originally defined by Chinese geologists [ 1] and refers to erosional landscapes developed on continental red beds and characterized by scarp slopes [ 2, 3 ].
